NBN Cabling – Installation & Repairs
The process of connecting to the NBN is not always straightforward. Often additional cabling work is required inside the home to get everything working. In most cases, your service provider will be unable to assist with this type of work. However, we can help you in solving most of these problems.
Our services include reconnecting existing phone points, installing new phone points, repairing faults within the internal cabling, moving the NBN modem and installing new NBN modems. If you need help or advice, give us a call.
Diagnose and Repair NBN Cabling Problems
Some NBN connections require the use of existing cables (phone and coaxial) inside the house. If the cabling is old or damaged, an unreliable internet connection is likely. This can result in slow speeds, constant dropouts and being unable to connect to the internet. If this sounds like the kind of problems you are experiencing, we can help.
An examination of the internal cabling will be necessary to locate the fault. From there, we can determine if a repair of the existing cable is possible or if a new cable needs to be installed. If the fault is located outside the house, you will need to contact your service provider to organise a repair.
NBN Modem Setup and Installation
Has your ISP sent you out a modem for the NBN and you’re not sure what to do with it? Let our technicians install it for you. This will generally involve connecting the modem to the lead in cable as well as connecting the telephone handset to the modem. In some cases, existing phone points may need reconfiguring to connect to the modem. If you don’t have a point in the room where you want the modem to go, that’s not a problem. We can install a new point. Once the cabling has been completed, we test both the internet and phone to confirm they are working correctly.
Reconnect Phone Points to NBN
An NBN connection may give you fast internet, but it can also cause telephone problems. The NBN changes the way a telephone line operates. Instead of connecting a phone handset directly to an incoming line, it connects to the NBN modem. Existing phone points will no longer function. And this is where problems can arise.
If you have just the one phone there should be no problem. However, if you want to use multiple phone points or place your phone in a different room to the modem, you will likely need to get some cabling work done.
We can re-configure your existing phone cabling, so it connects to the NBN modem. This will allow existing phone points to function like they did previously.
Moving the NBN Modem
You may not get a choice on the placement of your NBN modem. Usually the modem is positioned at the front of the building. Not always the most convenient location. In most cases, your service provider will not be able to move the modem.
Depending on the type of NBN you have, we might be able to help. NBN modems that utilise a phone line or coaxial cable can usually be moved. This may involve running a new cable to the location you want the modem. Sometimes an existing cable can be used.
Unfortunately, if you have optic fibre to the house, we are unable to move the internal NBN connection box. However, if you want your modem / router in a different location we can run a cable from the connection box to another room.
Please note: If you want to move an NBN modem that already has multiple phone points connected, chances are you will also require additional phone cabling installed at the new location.
Types of NBN
The NBN is comprised of multiple technologies, each of which can require a different type of cabling and hardware.
FTTC – Fibre to the Curb
FTTN – Fibre to the Node
FTTP – Fibre to the Premises
HFC – Hybrid Fibre Coaxial
FTTB – Fibre to the Building
NBN Telemarketer Scams
If you’re not already aware, there are telemarketers and scammers randomly calling people regarding the NBN. Sometimes it’s an automated computer voice. Other times it’s a real person. They usually claim to be from the NBN or some other service provider. The purpose of the call can be to trick you into changing service providers. But it can also be for a more nefarious purpose.
We’ve experienced these types of phone calls ourselves and usually just hang up. If you do receive a phone call like this, it’s probably best you do the same. Make sure to never give out personal information to an unknown caller and never agree to anything they might be trying to sell. It’s possible the caller might get aggressive with you and threaten to have your phone and internet service terminated. Don’t fool for it. If this happens, we recommend hanging up and calling your service provider to check on the status of your phone and internet service.
